Wolfville and Area Inter-Church Council Announcement May 2025
THE WOLFVILLE AREA INTER-CHURCH COUNCIL (WAICC) THROUGH ITS HOUSING COMMITTEE OFFERS FUNDING TO SUPPORT AREAS OF HOUSING NEED WITHIN THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA THAT WAICC SERVES
Wolfville and Area Inter-Church Council (WAICC) announces a second round of funding of up to $150,000 and invites registered not-for-profit and/or charitable organizations to submit applications for projects that address housing insecurity and related needs within the WAICC geographical area*.
The Housing Continuum is a concept that identifies housing needs from those who are living rough (typically defined as those with no permanent roof over their heads), through emergency shelters, supportive housing, government housing, deeply affordable rentals operated by non-profit organizations, market rents and home ownership.
The Wolfville Area Inter-Church Council invites applications for funding for projects that offer
- Emergency Housing – overnight shelters operated by non-profit groups.
- Supportive Housing – longer term housing geared to specific need areas e.g., youth at risk, with staff support for residents.
- Deeply affordable individual rental units that support those with very low incomes but who live independently.
Registered not-for-profit groups who provide housing services within the three types of housing listed above may be eligible for supportive funding grants from WAICC to support staffing, operations, renovation or new construction or land purchase. Projects may be part of a larger initiative and/or involve other organizations.
WAICC will be accepting applications through a continuous intake process and organizations may apply for funding at any time. Proposals will be assessed on a first-come, first-served basis as the funds allow. Proposals may be made online at https://waicc.org/apply/housing-application
WAICC also invites donations to increase capacity to fund projects to address housing insecurity. Donations can be made through Canada Helps (Wolfville Area Inter-Church Council). If preferred, e-transfers can be made to or by cheque to WAICC Treasurer, Box 2270, Wolfville, NS, Canada B4P2N5. Please specify “Housing Needs” with any donation.
For this round of funding WAICC has designated $150,000 that will decrease as projects are approved. Applications may be for funding up to the amount available at the time.
*For the purpose of this funding initiative, the WAICC geographical area includes the boundaries of WAICC member churches (Wolfville and adjacent communities, as well as New Minas and Kentville).
